  • Meeting #107, May 3 (draft circulated May 3)
    • No corrections noted.
    • Brad moved to approve, Terry seconded, no objections or abstentions → minutes approved.

5. Review Open Action Items

6. Inter-group Collaboration

  • {Slide 13}
  • Nothing advised.

7. Discussion Topics

7 a) Review standard draft in more detail - Section 4

  • {Slide 14}
  • Using Brad's most recently marked-up copy as the current "working version".
  • The document includes un-numbered preamble paragraphs prior to section 1 that are essentially boiler plate text from IEEE and not subject to revision.
  • Section 1 re-states the scope an purpose from the PAR.
  • Section 2 declares other reference documents that are essential to understanding or application of the standard; presently we have no such dependencies.
  • Section 3 covers definitions of terms, acronyms, etc. We have some definitions declared in the wiki but we probably ought to wait until we have some of the content established so we know which definitions are required.
  • Noted that P2427 has been discussing definitions recently, so it would be useful to ensure that we stay aligned on such definitions across standards.  In general we should use definitions from IEEE Standards Dictionary Online if suitable terms already exist as this is assembled from previously published standards.  However many seemingly common terms don't exist in that reference while others may have several different definitions arising from different source standards.
  • In an update to the information provided in the previous meeting, "Transfer Procedure" is now proposed by P1687.1 as a name for transformations - this avoids any confusion over "Transfer Function" which has an already understood meaning.
  • Work through 4.1 Introduction.
  • Introduction may end up very similar to that of P1687.1.
  • Brad adding further annotations to the draft to record thoughts.
  • Figure 1 would not be usable as is due to reliance on the use of colour.  Possibility of breaking this into smaller, simpler illustration that could be more easily drawn in grey-scale.
  • ITC18 slide 15 diagram is only one of a pair; missing diagram would show the braces over the device rather than the interfaces.
  • ITC18 slide 9 - Is this still representative? Yes, Control Systems map onto the darker grey boxes in Brad P2654 S/W Model diagram (slide 56 of the meeting pack).  May need an additional bubble to represent the tooling that provides the vectors.
  • May be missing something to show hierarchy. There was an older diagram Ian had used that might be appropriate, but wasn't locatable during the meeting.

8. Any Other Business

  • {Slide 16}
  • Special Session proposed on standards at ITC.

9. Today's Key Takeaways

  • Important to keep definitions aligned across standards.

10. Glossary Terms from This Meeting

  • Proposal to replace "Transformations" with "Transfer Functions" is now overtaken by proposal to use "Transfer Procedure" instead.
  • Carried over:
    • ModelPoint
    • System Element.
    • System Resource.
    • 'System' needs the concept of a controller capability added.
    • "Filtering" may need to be defined.
    • "Translation" may need to be defined.
    • "Interface" is missing.
      • No obvious IEEE accepted definition.
      • 1687 has definitions for specialised forms: Device Interface and Instrument Interface.
      • We may need specialised forms for Software Interface and Hardware Interface.
      • "Interface" is overloaded and requires disambiguation.
    • 1687.1: Transformation.
    • IEEE 1856: Sense - "Sensor" done, Acquire, Analyze not really defined.
    • Device - do we mean a packaged device? May be many devices in a package. "Device" is often used as a modifier, e.g. "device package", "device identification".
    • Use Case Context, Application Context
    • Legacy Infrastructure, SJTAG Infrastructure (placeholders for now, really for working group to define).
    • "Generators": May need to be qualified as "Test Generators" (used by the integrator/tester) and "Model Generators" (used by IP providers, interface designers, etc.).
    • AccessLink and DataLink descriptions will need to be revised.
    • See P1687.1's definitions on Slide 31 of the pack presented by Jeff Rearick on Jan 14, 2019.
    • "State", "Vector", "Sequence" and "Pattern" as proposed at April 8, 2019 meeting.
    • "Event", "Access Interface" as proposed at April 15, 2019 meeting.
    • 'Port' needs to be developed.

11. Schedule next meeting

  • May 17, 2021

12. Topic for next meeting

  • Continue to review standard draft.

13. Reminders

14. List New Action Items

  • Meeting adjourned at 12:02 PM EDT

Respectfully submitted,
